Amazon Prime: Undone

Undone, also known in Turkish as "Perişan", comes from the creators of Netflix's much-loved series BoJack Horseman, stars Alita: Battle Angel actress Rosa Salazar in the lead role, and streams on Amazon Prime. Of course you can't talk about a show with such a brilliant script and imaginative world without mentioning its filming technique. Shot with rotoscoping, Undone delivers its story to the audience beautifully through that technique. So what is this technique? In short, rotoscoping means filming scenes the usual way with actors performing in front of a camera, then having the animation team add visual effects and paint over those shots so they feel as if they were drawn in watercolor or pastel.

At about 22 minutes each across 8 episodes, the series hooks you as if you were watching a 2.5-hour film, and you finish all 8 episodes in one go. The premise is excellent too: it follows Alma, who is tired of her monotonous life and longs to be part of something bigger, after a tragic car crash leaves her losing her sense of time and place, beginning to see her late father, and trying to bring him back.

With rotoscoping, Undone puts its dreamlike world on screen brilliantly, casting a spell over the viewer while offering a gorgeous visual feast. Through storytelling and music that connect us emotionally with the lead, we get angry with Alma, have fun with her, and cry with her.

Packed with great science-fiction elements, plus fantasy, psychological drama, and strong music—and topped with that wonderful storytelling approach—all that's left for us is to stay glued to the screen for 2.5 hours and enjoy the moment. In short, Undone is a fantastic sci-fi and psychological drama series you really should watch. Even after finishing it, it stays with you; I'm not sure yet whether a second season is coming, but the effect of that first season—where you can't tell what's real and what's imagined—lands beautifully in the finale. For anyone curious, I've left the trailer below.

Finally, yes, I know I haven't written an article in a while—I've been through a busy stretch of work—but I've gotten past that now and have plenty of topics lined up. In this post I wanted to share Undone, the wonderful series that helped me unwind during that intense work period, and that makes me wish I could unwatch it just to experience it from the start again. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, and if you liked the piece, a like would mean a lot. See you in the next posts—take care!
